Before and After

Most of our customers have century old homes and are interested in restoring them to their original, or near original grandeur. Or they have just added a new room and desire to replicate the moldings that were used in its original architecture. They need 150± feet of Crown and Baseboards as well as Victorian casing, plinth blocks and rosettes for several doors and windows. They also desire the addition of picture molding that can be used to hang pictures from chain or cord. The typical customer has visited every lumber center and millwork business in their area and have found that the moldings had to be custom made and were quoted prices that they couldn’t afford as a result of such short millwork runs.

These pictures represent a major restoration project in a home that was unoccupied for many years and used as a storage “home” for many of the family’s relatives. As you will see in the pictures, not only was there an enormous effort to restore the home, but also to remove the many rooms of “stored items” that often represented artifacts of deceased relatives. All in all, the most valuable of these items were removed and stored in until the homes restoration was completed at which time; many were brought back into the home that represented many years of family gatherings, holidays, and history.

Kitchen and dining room pictures:

These two rooms …the original being the kitchen were remodeled in the mid 1990’s in an effort to restore the “kitchen” back to a formal dining room representing the original floor plan. The dining room was converted to a kitchen in the early 1950’s when the original kitchen was converted to an entry way for the main house which still has seven doors providing access to several of the many rooms of the home. Today, the dining room represents much of the original restoration taken from “old pictures” and continues to represent the original moldings of the 1890’s. Today, the original kitchen has been restored and still has seven doors leading to many of the homes interior rooms including the “hired help” quarters.

Parlor or living room restoration:

These pictures represent the formal living rooms “Parlor and Music Rooms” that the original home represented. As you can see, much restoration took place in which “old pictures” were used to recreate the original architecture. All has been restored to the original with the exception of burgundy velvet curtains that were hung across the large entryway of the parlor. Of course, the carpet has been matched as close as the original design….which were hardwood floors in the late 1800’s but later was carpeted. The restoration included original baseboards and casings, all which were stripped and restained, as well as moldings that were re-created to match the original architecture.
